Case 580CK Question for the knowing.....

I just bought a nice old 580CK (1969) and want to straighten out a cobbled together throttle linkage. I am waiting for a set of manuals so I am without a good reference for a while.

1. Wondering if you can tell me if the carb linkage rod from the front of the engine (pivot arm there with holes in both side) has any spring attached on the carb side of the tractor? My carb has no spring return for the throttle plate, either on the carb or the rod and I am sure it should have a spring to return the throttle plate and shaft back to idle when I let off the pedal.

2. The other side of the engine has a slider bar linkage that controls the pedal/rod and it is also rigged with bale wire between the end of the rod(front) and the same fixed front pivot. Seems to me the slider rod on that side should have a spring in there and perhaps an end linkage from the slide rod and the pivot?

Is there a handy drawing available showing the set up or can someone describe the two sides of the carb control linkage from that pivot point in the front to the carb and the other side from that frontpivot point to both sides? That slider linkage assembly on the right side (sittting on the tractor) has two 1/2 bolt head bolts that seem to allow adjustment by lengthening the slide but mine has nothing attached to that slotted piece?

I sure appreciate any insight you can offer. Thanks Ralph

Try www.caseih.com and look under parts and service. I've had better luck using model 530 draft-o-matic even though the tractor says 580ck. The picture you want will be of the timing gear cover and governor assy.

That is a great reference and thanks. My 580CK is the same linkage setup and mine has a least one broken spring. I looked at the view of the carb also to determine if the throttle plate shaft that connects to the control rod linkage is somehow spring tenioned also and do do see any.

I am wondering how the carb returns to idle? If the spring tension on the control rod wants to pull the carb open (fast), there must be tension on the opposite (carb) side to return the carb to idle? I don't think the actual pivot shaft is spring loaded (?) so either the carb, carb control rod or pivot linkage has to be is spring loaded or I am misunderstanding how that simple linkage controls the carb.

Right now there is a non stock added spring and baling wire hooked from the carb linkage back towards the operator. Obviously this creates return tension but it is a field repair of some sort. Maybe that front pivot is supposed to be spring loaded....

Maybe someone with the 530 would know how that carb throttle return to idle mechanically? Thanks Ralph

the weights in the governor will return the throttle
linkage when engine is running as long as it is in
good working order also to function properly, you
need the correct spring and to have gov-carb linkage
set to the right specs, this is in service manual
