Case 580 Construction King

I'm keeping my eye out for a good, early model 580 CK with loader and backhoe. I have no experience with Case tractors at all, other than reading about how good of a loader/backhoe tractor the 530 and 580's are. Is there any advice you can give me when hunting for one of these, and what would you guys say is a good price for one? (in Ohio if it matters)

Thanks

Very solid machines 530-580ck often considered the worlds best. Things to check are pin and swivel (wear/slop), Frame cracks/welds, test drive it for slippage in torque converter if so equipped . Should have relatively quick response time when digging or swinging boom (good pump and hydraulic system)...The case Diesel 188 was a gutty, decently fuel-efficient engine for me.I also had a 530 159ci gasser that was a loadin son offa with a shuttle shift. $3000-$6500 any much more than that and you could start looking at the newer series.

There's one for sale right now that sounds like it has a bad head gasket (moisture coming out of exhaust). How hard would it be to change a head gasket on one of the 580ck? Would it involve removing the loader or could it be done without much hassle with the loader still attached?

If the head gasket is bad the sleeve protrusion should be checked and if any are low they should be corrected. this requires engine removal and block machining done to correct the height of the sleeve. mEl
