Im able to get the tractor in gear easeier but now I dont have any neutral on the shuttle. When I shift from forward to the neutral position it still wants to creep forward. The same with reverse. I did adjust the the spool valve to 3.1 inches or really close. Do I need to adjust something else?
It dont look like you can adjust the shuttle but not sure.
Thanks Hyp7

The early 580's did not have a neutral position on the shuttle handle, the later ones had a knotch with a stop that dropped into it to hold the handle into a neutral position. Does it try to drive ahead at low throttle settings even in reverse or does it try to drive in reverse when in reverse. There were two different shuttles used in the series , a Twin Disc unit and a Rockford. Does the Transmission grind badly when trying to engage the gears with the engine at low throttle, How slow is it idling? It would be possible to have warped plates in one or both clutches and that would cause what you describe, this could have been caused by low oil in the resrvoir, low system pressure or a plugged suction screen. mEl

Mel what is the best way to get to this suction/intake screen. and mine also has the notch for the neutral on the shuttle and It grinds when the rpms are hi, but not too bad when I nock down the rpms. I would like to get to the intake screen cause I know it prolly hasnt been checked.
O one more question. Which dipstick goes where the longer one in the front and shorter one in the back or other way around? The ones for the tranny and the diff.
thanks Hyp7
