Hello I just bought a case 580 construction king and I drained the two plugs on the bottem front is called the torque converter housing drain and the back one is called the torque tube drain. The front only had about 2 quarts of fluid and the second drain had about 2 gallons of fluid.
My question is, do I fill the both of of the fill plugs on top with hy-trans or just the front fill with hy-trans and the back one with 90wt oil? I didnt drain the tranny. Which I think the book shows the drain under the axle.
any help.
thanks and great site!

The TC unit can be filled from the cap ahead of the 4 speed cap. The large 1 1/2 thin nut between the caps is the rear trans which is 90 wt oil. There should be another plug on the next cap front that fills the tc/shuttle housing. You will not find this anywhere in print for the older machines but after putting a couple gallons in to avoid a dry startup I fill them with the brakes locked, the engine running, shuttle in fwd, with the trans in 4th gear. This freezes the driveline and the oil level can be checked accurately without gear splash. Give several minutes to assure that the tc unit has achieved a complete fill, till it does you may have to top off the oil level a couple times. If checked cold after overnite it will be normal for it to be a couple inches overfull from converter drainback. mEl
