Finally found a 630

I've been looking for a stablemate for my 430 and 570. When I finished the restoration on a 1964 430 several years ago I identified two more models I wanted to restore. A 570 and 630 diesel with a dry clutch. I found both within the past 4 months. The restoration started on a 1971 570 this winter. As of a couple of hours ago the trifecta is complete. The restoration is nearly done on this one, but I'm happy to have her none the less.

Would anyone have an original "Deluxe Seat and Support" assembly, a generator with a tach drive, or a rear flood/tail light?

Is that cap on top of the air intake correct? I thought the 30 series had a pre-cleaner with a clear plastic bowl, or no pre-cleaner at all.

Joe,shes a beauty in her Sunday's best.It would be nice to take a picture if you can of all the "girls" together.
But thanks for sharing with us.

Congratulations! That is a nice tractor!I have a 630 gas tricycle with a loader that has become one of my favorite's.I have a 4020 wf with a loader but usually get the 630.I like the way it runs and the triple range. My favorite tractor growing up was dads 311b with case loader, the 630 sounds and runs just like the 311b just with a little more muscle.I had a 530 gas wf that I put a lot of hrs on and have always wanted a 570.Where are you located?I am in Western KY.Nick

Here is a picture of our 630 unloading a Case grain drill. Also on the trailer is a 400 diesel with 3-14 eh plows and Grader blade.Nick

Joe, do everyone a favor and send a picture to Dutchman of all three to use in his next years calendar. You can be proud of the job you have done!

Joe,
Great work! Makes me think back to when they were parked alongside the highway at our local Case dealer brand, spanking new. Can't figure out why the 630 did not sell well. Don

Don, to be honest about it I think much of the blame goes to the dealers. Some did not like the sleeves and they steered the customers away from them. My brother was looking strong at one and he was talked out of it by the dealer. engine was problems (sleeves) and it didn't have enough horses over the 530. 730 was a better deal so brother bought the 730.

John

You're right... But in fairness to the dealers, the 630 and the 730 were within a few horsepower of each other, but the 730 was built on a much heavier platform. A little work with a screwdriver and the 730 could magically be an 830 with no worries about the final drive. A 630 was built on a platform that should have remained under 50 HP. The 430-530-630 tractors were way ahead of their time, but asking them to handle power above 50 hp was probably not fair. On the other hand the 730 and 830's were great machines that had the capability to work all day and never give any problems. Case was right to discontinue the 630, and that is why I find the 630 so desirable. It was a good try that didn't pan out, which makes it a collectors dream...

Joe, that is a great looking tractor too. Sure brings back memories. I hope you take some photos this Spring and send them to Dutchman. If everyone sends their photos Dutchman will have to make a longer year to get them all in there.

Joe,
Thanks for the response. That makes as much sense as anything I've ever been told and matches what some old dealers have told me-they just didn't hold up like other Case models. I can't see a 630 pulling 4 bottoms all day for long (or a 300 pulling 3 for that matter). Don

Don, we pulled 3-14's with our 300 in western Wis in 3rd and low range. Liked it better than the DC. The only problem with the 300 is that its a VAC rearend. We split the rearend baling.

John,
I don't for a minute doubt you could do it, I just meant that the components weren't built to handle that kind of stress. I think Allis did the same with the D-19 too much power for the rest of the tractor. Don

My JI Case parts book shows a plastic see thru precleaner, but the 1960 630 air cleaner intake was housed completely within the nose cone. My 1960 630 does not have a hole in the nose cone for the screen or precleaner. Yours looks like the cap off a 1963 or bit later 730/830. '60-62 was housed within the nose cone just like my 630. I would bet the 630 switched when the 730/830 did but used a different screen/precleaner set up.

We had a '63 830 when I was a teenager and it looked just like the piece on yours but parts book shows the precleaner for the 630.

Here's what the 1960 models looked like. I have more work done to the old girl now as this is an older photo, but it doesn't look nearly as good as yours, it will someday!!
