Just after buying a Case 1200 TK here in Ireland. I was trying to get a date for it but the number I have (8229944) does not correspond to the numbers on this site? Can anybody help me out please.

Thanks in advance,
Ken

It's 6 speed. It's a US tractor and worked somewhere in northern New York state I believe. It's only in Ireland a few months

If I read the serial number data in Brumbaugh and Stonehouse's history of Case since 1955, your tractor is a 1964 model, the first year of production.

The Racine built tractors in 1964 start at 8229001, but the 1200 should have been built at Rockford and even the 1964's were 9800001 and up at that plant. I have an Offical tractor and implement guide from 1968 the they have the 1200 listed with the crawlers in the serial number section. Could they have put some oddball S/N's on them for construction tractors???

Eldon Brumbaugh was the chief engineer at Racine so his word should be pretty good. Also, according to his book, the first batch of 1200's was built in Racine and then production was transferred to Rockford.

Serial plate says

MODEL 1200
NO. 8229944

MADE IN USA
J.I. CASE COMPANY
RACINE-WISCONSIN-USA

The 1200 is stamped from the front and 8229944 is like it is stamped from the back (raised numbers)

Again, my book says that the 324 1964 1200's were built in Racine and production was moved to Rockford beginning in 1965. I'd sure trust the word of the company's chief engineer.
By the way, where do you live? I'm originally from Oberlin in Decatur County (Our farm is 5.5 miles from the Nebraska line.)

I am 298 miles east of Oberlin. Right in the center of Atchison county. As far as the tractors go, I will take your word for it. The other Racine models fall into that range. We learn something every day.

The serial # on my 1200 has a dash in the middle. It reads 9800-427. Does this mean anything or just the way the maker stamped it? What year would it be? Thanks.
