Few years ago I posted pictures of the Case D liquid propane tractor I bought at an auction. The pictures you are about to see are from when I bought it.

Acouple of years ago I had the tank filled but the valves leaked when turned on so I parked it in the shop to play with it another day the next summer. The next summer I pulled it outside and turned the valves on, did get the leak to a minium. Tried pull starting it but could get it to fire. It sat out all winter while the tank leaked dry.

Last summer I started to work on it again, cleaned mag a bit and started to get fire. I turned valves back on and cranked it over, it acted like it wanted to fire(thats when I found out tank was empty). I finally got it to fire on starting fluid and it would run till it was gone. Gave me hope for the old girl. Ordered new valves for it and was wanting to get it running before Madison 2007. Well valves finally arrived but no propane.

Well decided I would get everything ready. Filled the radiator with water and it run out the water pump as fast as I poured it in. What a disappointment thats was. Well I didn't want it sitting out side so I rolled it to the back of the shop till I could change the water pump. Found out that JI Case was feature tractor for 2008. Cancled plans for Madison till this year.

This spring I pulled another pump out of a parts DC along with a generator. Pump looked good but pulley was bent on generator. Generator we to generator shop to get new pulley and to get checked out. By this time it's haying season and no time to finidh the job.

Had planned to take it to the Madison SD show. Water pump was in, radiator and generator still laid on the floor. An now it's rally week, Madison just around the corner. Then it rain, time to put radiator in. Called propane guy to fill tank Friday. Water pump had small leak. Pulled the tractor outside for guy to fill and then off to work. Was anxious to get home to try to start the D. Dang LP guy never showed, grrrrrrr. Oh well I need to go bale anyways.

This was also the weekend of the Western Dakota Antique Club show. No Case D running, still had baling to do. No time for fun. Little wet to bale. Alright, I'll take my 500 instead.

Well turned out I need to change oil it it. Well to damp tp bale. Breeze come up, dang better go finish baling. Conditions about right for baling, was half away around the field and the LP guy drove down the road. Alright propane! Will finish round then go in.

Make the rest of the story short we found I had a couple of little leaks, he said minor. Checked radiator and it still had water in it. Time to shine, hooked battery up, turned to slow. grabed 12volt battery out of 500 and hooked it up. OK it;s time. Cranked and cranked, ok a shot of staring fluid. Contact, ready, spray, we have contact and a running tractor Alright! it's alive. Purrrs like a kitten. Hmmm one problem, regulator freezing up. Have idle but no rpm's. Well at least I knew it would run.

Ok, now to see why water not circulating threw regulator. In about ten minutes had that cured. Fired back up and everything looking good. To later to make tractor pull. Oh well, just about done baling get that job done.

Finished baling, finished servicing the 500, ok can be the to show for big feed. Agreed that if the D LP would pull it's self onto the trailer I would take it also for the parade and maybe see about pulling it. Well it made it's way onto the trailer and made it off and to the parade parking.

Weighed the D in at 5000 with one weight, Case 500 weighed in at 9470. Found out there would be 8 pullers in class 6. I wouldn't get to pull till late afternoon. Tractor run good through the parade, didn't miss a beat. Thought however it had low rpm's still. Finally one class away, the list is out. Dang, gotta pull against allis chalmers thats owners says is stock but everyone knows it's not. He pulls, 114.?? ft. next puller's not even close. My turn, crowd chuckles as I pull on the track. Here to have fun, so show me the green flag, off we go, track is hard wow, up to 60ft, now 80 then 90 wow 100 running half throtle, to keep from sping, all kinds of power left, crowd cheering, 110ft and then it stops. Will have to settle for 2nd place. Boy it surprised me and everyone else.

Sorry no updated pictures. Picture taker had to leave before I got to pull. Guess it earned the right for a trip to madison SD this coming Friday. Will try to get updated pictures. Here is what it looked like when I found it.

Hi Caseman, Need some help. Could I ask where did you get the valves for the propane tanks? I have 45 D and a 42 LA on propane, but valves leak on both tanks. I jury rigged the LA so I could use it, but could not take it anywhere the way it is. Thanks, Chuck

Got my valves from my LP provider. He told me he thought he could get kits for must regulator valves. If your lp provider can not come up with any let me know and I will see if I can help.
