Case 580B/CK Brake Trouble

I have a Case 580B/CK Backhoe tractor. I am having trouble with the brakes on the machine, for a couple months they have been going out slowly and then gone all together. a couple of weeks ago whenever i would hit the brakes the left wheel would lock up completely. I then would have to go in the opposite direction to unlock the wheel. Now this happens when the clutch is engaged. In the last two days now the wheel will lock up involuntarily, I dont push any pedles and try to reverse and it will move a couple feet then lock up. this also happens when I go forward.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?

I would say the solution is straight forward. Teardown and rebuild the brakes. When you have it torn down, check the plate on the side of the tractor. This plate is also the carrier for the differential bearing. It is common for these to be cracked and require replacemnt. I was told the aftermarket replacements are built heavier. I had to replace mine and it's a real chore because you have to re-shim the differential carrier bearing adjustment. I also had to replace $50 worth of shims.
Life for me is never simple.

This is the proverbial case of the $1 part that stops the $10,000 machine.
I had the same problem and all I had to do was replace two springs that seems to me were less than $5 for both. I do think it took a couple hours as I did both and unseized the differential lock at the same time.
