730CK Questions

Have a 68 730CK with dual range transmission with dual loader. Loader has pump running off pto. I went to try the loader out by hauling a bucket of gravel. Once I started into the pile I had no response from the loader. Thought maybe the loder was low on oil but loader had no jerky motion , no nothing. I finally noticed that when ever I tried to raise the loader the pto would quit. Once the load was dumped it would raise the bucket enough to get to the shop.

I noticed that the oil was very milky and over full. Tonight I drained the oil. On bottom of tractor I found 3 plugs. The 1st one was just below the rear axle housing. That is the one I drained. I got about 17 gals of ugly stuff drained out. Ok what are the other 2 drain plugs, one just in front of brake drum and other one up by clutch housing??. Do I need to open these drain plugs also. Next, does the dual range have a hydraulic filter, if so where??I couldn't find one listed on caseih.com. Does the pto adjust the same as the older series Case tractors? Am hoping changing oil may help pto??

Yes I know I should get a manual but am unsure if I want to keep the tractor. I like the dual range shifting far better than that of the 700/800 series. Any help would be welcomed.

The front plug drains the trans. The rear one drains the hyd. You need to drain all 3 to change the hyd. oil. Filter is just under the platform above the axle. PTO adjusts just like the DC, or your 900's. Adjust through the round cover on the right side. Cover must be replaced to try the lever. Do not slip the clutch while using the loader. It is a button clutch, and it will eat the pressure plate and flywheel. MUCH better hyd system than the EH tractors!!

Changing the oil doesn't hurt...however your problem is probably on the adjustment of the pto. The older ones I believe is down more..the dual range should be up high..just under the platform. 3 bolts on the cover ...remove then adjust clockwise....using a "tool" or a pickle fork. It doesn't take too long to do....probably around 20 minutes to get it adjusted....if its not totally worn out. The filter on my 830's is up under the platform on the right side...same side as the adjustment cover for the pto....its just an spin on canister type...maybe some are internal elements..???
overall I think your problem is with adjusting the pto clutch....hope this helps...and if you havent' done that before on any case...you may want to get a manual...cheap fix probably.

The oil in the transmission is also the hydraulic oil but you do need to remove all 3 plugs to completely drain the system. you will only get a quart or 2 out of the second and third drain holes. However, if the loader is running off a PTO pump, is it using oil from the tractor rear end or does it have its own resevoir? I would wonder why it is set up with a PTO pump as the CK models had high capacity Cessna pumps. You should check out the pressure on the tractor remotes .

According to the manual, the PTO clutch should engage with a decisive snap, requiring a strong pull (they said something like 50 pounds, but I think that"s excessive). If yours feels mushy, it definitely needs adjusting. If it has been slipping for a long time, the PTO clutch might be gone, which is a rather involved repair.

My hydraulic filter is under the left side, just under the platform. Have you got one of those rare mirror-image 830's? :)

Just a note: The "pickle fork" is actually a tiny little thing, not a tie-rod end separator. I did mine the first time with a long screwdriver, but the biggest problem was just getting my fat self between the tire and the transmission so I could see in the hole.

yep...the texaswren was right...I was wrong..the filter is under the left side..at the top. And..yes...the pickle fork is literally a small pickle or olive fork...with bent up ends....thats what I used anyhow after looking at a picture of the tool. It is a tight fit to get your head in there ...I agree fully there.

Thanks for all the help folks. I finished draining the oil. Got about 21/2 gls out of the 2 plugs. Probably 1/2 gal+ was water. I should have taken some pictures of the oil. I have seen calves with bad case of the scours look better than this oil did. Dang it was badddddd.

Ok I changed the filter. Thought I was going to have to torch it off (just kidding). Glad there was some room as the filter wrench kept cruching the filter. I was thinking of putting in some reclaimed hytran that I got from the shop.If diesel wasn't so high I thought about flushing it with a diesel oil mix. Left drain plugs out hoping to get good drain.

Thought it would be best to run pto a bit before trying to adjust it. I haven't really looked for the adjustment hole yet. Maybe thats will be tomorrow nights job. Will keep you all updated.
