Soggy Case 830 seat

My dad has a fairly early two stick Dual-Range 830 diesel. It has the big roundish pan seat with a wrap around backrest. He got a new set of seat cushins probably 10 years ago, and for the last 7 years it seems to be increasing fond of soaking up every drop of water that touches it. The vinyl covering on the seat is in perfect shape with no visable possible point of entry for the water.

Any ideas of how to get this thing to seal up or at least drain? It will hold water for weeks at a time after a rain for a fun surprise once you sit on it. We have thrown around the idea of drilling a hole in the bottom since the vinyl seems to only let the water get in and not out. Any other ideas? Seat cushins for this thing are not cheap, this set wasn't anyway.

2 ideas...either put it in the shed when rain threatens or have an upholstry shop make up a slip cover from some waterproof material.

We had the same problem with our 830. Bradley is right the only way to solve this problem is to keep it in a covered shed or get an upolstery shop to make you a seamless plastic tarp like cover with a drawstring to put over it when you aren't on the seat or put up with a wet, how do the English say it.... oh yeah, bum.

It's probably wicking in through the stitching. Drilling a hole in the bottom won't help, because the surface tension in the foam will act like a sponge and keep it from draining. Best to keep it covered, so it doesn't rust out your seat pan! There's lots of places that sell waterproof seat covers (boating supplies, pet stores, sporting goods). Something should fit.
