I recently bought a 1945 Case SC. It had been stored in a barn for the past 20yrs and had not been run for at least that long. After a carb kit, some plug wires and new fluids it purrs like a kitten. I plan to restore it as it is in overall good condition, but I also plan to put it to work. I would like to be able to run Hydraulic attachments. I know that the later SC's have a Hydraulic pump, but is there a simple way to add a hydraulic system to an early SC that doesn't utilize the PTO shaft? I would like to keep the PTO avalible for use at the same time.

Thanks for your help,

Mike

mike, i don't have any pictures. i will see if my 16yr old son will help me try it . won't promise anything. if you want to see the pump, go to caseih.com, search for parts, begin search right here, type in (vac), click on (vac-13series), then (figure listing), then click on listing 127 vta2973 hyd pump, magneto. it will show you a blow-up of the pump. hope this helps. lowell gehring

well, i may be wrong about my pump fitting a vac. but as far as being small and slow, it is definiitely not. it will lift anything i can hang on it. the pump had a case # on it which i used to get the rebuild kit from caseih.

i have a 43 sc that has hydraulic pump that i think is from a vac case. it fits between the govenor and the magneto. it has it's own add on oil reservior. it operates a 2 way cylinder for the 3 pt hitch.

Hyd pump from a VAC will not fit. The Vac pump runs off the timing gears. You need a pump that fits the magneto drive on both ends. The pumps that fit in there are designed for Power steering only. They are small and slow. If you remove the cultivator lift off the back end of the tractor, and change the PTO shaft you can install the original hydraulic system off the SC's 1950 through 1951. PTO needs to be running for the pump to work, but a much better system. DK

Thanks DKase. I was afraid that might be the only way to get a good hydraulic system. I was hoping that there might be another way either driving off the front of the engine or possible off the side of the trans. Any ideas are welcome, and thanks for the help.

That"s a great Idea!! I"ve belive that I have seen a hydraulic pump like that on a VAC. I will look into it thanks. You don"t happen to have any pictures of your installation that I could look at, do you?

Thanks,
Mike
