Does anyone by chance have a digital copy of the 172 mower manual?
Currently mine has the manual jack screw for raising and lowering the axle and I would like to convert it to hydraulic but I'm not quite sure where the cylinder is supposed to mount as there are about 4 different locations on the deck.

Any tricks to operating this thing also? Seems to be a real PITA on any sort of uneven ground... Right now I cannot raise it either as the jack screw it frozen solid... soooo either you have to be quick on the clutch or quick on the PTO lever... Had it behind the IH 350 and twisted the shaft tube off last weekend when she dug in with an unforgiving LPTO... Least behind the M it'll just unload when I push the clutch in...

Any advice would be appreciated eh...

Thanks

Jamie

Finally found my operating manual and parts list. Shows the screw jack mounts on the R.H.side facing forward. If you add the hydraulic ram, the kit takes another set of brackets just like the screw jack mounts in, bolted on the left side so the screw jack becomes a depth stop. The distance of the screw jack pins cannot exceed 27.25 inches or extension will strike the axle. The anchor bracket is mounted so the ram will lift as it pushes out, rear or forward of the axle depending on whether the wheels are behind or beside the mower.

Thanks for the reply... Is there any way you could scan those few pages and post them?

I have no brackets on the left side of the gear box (looking forward). There is a claw type bracket mounted on the right side forward of the gearbox. There is also a bracket with a square cutout and a hole which is attached to the screw jack. This has a chain running from it to the claw bracket. There is also a bracket with hole on the right side at the rear of the mower mounted vertically.

Does it specify what size cylinder to use by chance? If i have to I'll just fab my own mounting points and weld em on.

Thank you for your help eh

J

The mounting parts for the screw jack and hydraulic ram are identical. Uses a standard remote ram. 8 inch stroke I think. If your remote ram has a depth stop, you likely can replace the screw jack with it. I have the equipment to scan pages but I don't know how to use it. E-mail your address to me and I'll mail you copies of the pages you need. Jerry
