I am restoring a WD 45 and need to know what kind and weight oil to put in the transmission this also runs the hydraulic pump. Then I need to know what to put in the rear end.Do these two areas flow together? I know to use 90 weight in the cups in the bull gears. Appreciate any input.Pete |

Use 85/140 in the trans. 80/90 will work but the trans. and hand clutch work better in my WD with 85/140. It may not matter with the spiral cut gears in the WD45. Just 10/30 oil in the hyd. res. works great or if you have any universal hyd. oil you can use that. The seal between the hyd. res. and trans. res. can leak between each other. If you are "loseing" hyd. oil and the trans. oil is "growing" this seal is out and the tractor has to be split to change it. This was not as much of a problem on the WD45's as it was on the early WD's. Just keep an eye on the fluid levels for awhile after you change the fluids. My 2 cents...

If you can't find 85-140, 80-90 would be fine.

The drain for the hydraulic is infront of the PTO. The fill is the little dipstick on the left side of the hydraulic husing. There are three drains for the transmission, The PTO, under the transmission, and under the rear end. There are two fills on the left side of the transmission/rear end, both plugs about half way up the side of the casting. Use all drains and fills to do a complete job of draining and filling.

The hyd pump is seperate from transmission, you will use hyd oil or a nondetergent 10 wt oil in the hyd pump. The hand clutch, transmission, rearend, and pto will use 85-140 wt oil.
