I would like to someday put a live hydraulic pump on my D14. As there is very little room between the front engine pully and the steering gearbox I was wondering if a pump could be driven off of the power steering gear. I have no power steering and I see there is a cover plate where the power steering pump should be.
Has anybody done this, or is it even possible?

Yes! The early D10-D12s used a pump mounted there for the low pressure hydraulics and the non-draft sensitive 3pt. They had a resevoir mounted behind it up next to the hood.

WELL I SUPPOSE IT IS POSSIBLE, AS LONG AS YOU CAN GET THE PUMP TO MATCH THE FRONT COVER PLATE. I ALSO HAVE A D14 I AM REDOING, JUST PAINTING NOW TO BE EXACT, I WOULD TAKE YOUR PULLEY OFF AND TAKE IT TO A MACHINE SHOP AND HAVE THE PORTION WHERE THE HAND CRANK GOES MACHINED DOWN SO YOU CAN WELD A SMALL YOKE ONTO IT. RUN A SHAFT OUT THROUGH THE WHOLE IN THE STEERING BOX(WHERE THE HAND CRANK WOULD FIT) AND MOUNT YOUR PUMP OUT IN FRONT. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO BUILD A BRACKET THAT WOULD BOLT ON TO THE FRONT SUPPORT AND THE TANK MOUNTING IS UP TO YOU. THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT MOUNTING WHERE THE P/S PUMP GOES IS THE FACT THAT I DONT THINK YOU COULD FIT A BIG ENOUGH PUMP THERE BECAUSE YOUR PUMP FLANGE WOULD HAVE TO MATCH THAT OF THE ONE ON THE FRONT COVER. I DONT THINK YOU COULD FIND A PUMP THAT WOULD PUT OUT ENOUGH GPM TO JUSTIFY CHANGING IT OVER. THAT IS JUST MY OPINION, ANYBODY ELSE WITH ME ON THIS??
