Help starting D19 Propane

Trying to help a friend start a Propane D19. Any advice/copy of the appropriate page of the operators manual would be appreciated. Trying to understand liquid verses vapor valves and what is the button for right of the key switch.

OK from the looks of the tank you probably have an aftermarket conversion. Without seeing a picture of the convertor (regulator) I am only making a educated guess.

For starters Vapor is for really cold weather. LP's have the vapor option for warming up in cold weather but I had a Cockshutt that didn't even have a vapor valve and it would
pop right off well down into the 20s. Just open the liquid valve and proceed.

I am guessing you likely have a Century convertor with a prime solenoid. If that is the case turn the key on, open the throttle enough to open the plate and valve on the
carburator and hit the button and hold it for a bit. You should hear gas running or bubbling back through the air cleaner. What this is doing is opening up the low side
diaphragm in the convertor and pumping a shot of fuel into the manifold. Release the button and start as normal. There should also be a button in the middle of the solenoid on
the convertor and this can be manually pressed if the solenoid isn't working. If it is a Century system there will be a external link on the carb that will tie a fuel valve to
the throttle plate to adjust mixture for different loads. Adjusting this link is your idle mixture adjustment. There is a bar in the carb that is adjusted with a brass slotted
screw that is flush with the carb body, that is your load mixture adjustment.

If the convertor is Ensign brand (OEM) you advance the throttle to top engine speed and pull the choke out all the way, and start. Engine will only idle until you open the
choke then will go the speed the throttle is set for.

A picture of the convertor and carb would be helpful.

OK I just looked at your pics again. Someone somewhere along the line did some real monkeying with that tank. The valve on the right should be a smaller version of the one on the
left. Left is your fill valve and on the right should be one about like that but half the diameter, which would be used for vapor return when using a hand pump to refuel.

As I said earlier that tank is not factory but a aftermarket conversionn. Factory had the valves on the bottom of the tank.

factory tank has the valves on bottom. neighbor had d19 lpg we started always on vapor than turned on liquid. gray button on my d19d is
starter button. turn key to first spot for on then turn to second position and hold for manifold preheater. might need a shadetree manual!
lol

Thanks for your help. Here is a picture of the carburetor. Liquid only, turn key on, open throttle to open plate/valve on carb, push grey button for a bit and start. Thanks.

Yep thats century. You should see a button move on the convertor when you push the button switch on the dash and of course hear gas. Tractor is a conversion but for functionallity I prefer the Century system over Ensign just not original

As someone has said that tank does not appear factory. I have run a D-19 L P since 1978 and have followed the book, so my comments may not agree with some of
the other advise. You always start on vapor and switch to liquid when engine warms up. You can just run on vapor if you want it will not hurt anything, but
tractor will produce most power on liquid. At the end of the day turn the fuel off and run engine until it dies, otherwise it may be hard to start in morn.
yours does not appear to have a choke like mine which I always use to get it started. they are a good powerful tractor. Hope this helps some. good luck
