There is a for sale ad on this site titled 1937 Allis Chalmers B.

This one is a little confusing to me. I see a hand brake lever, 5 stud rear wheels, narrow dual wheel front end, steering looks like C to me. I think it's a C.
What say you all? Thanks.

Please understand; I'm not being critical of the seller. I just want to learn more.
 
It's got C steering, but I'm not sure the C ever came with hand brakes. Serial number would tell what the back half is. Fairly easy to swap front ends, but you don't see many guys put a NF on a B.

First off even if it was a B it would not be a 1937. The B with the Allis Chalmers engine started in 1938. This one also has the C fenders. The C front could be put on the B. You would need a rear view to see the shape of the drawbar and the width of the final drives to be sure. It very well could be a combo of different tractors.
 
Unless someone did a lot of changing it has to be a C because the B never came with hand brakes and that style rear hub on the same tractor.Hand brakes were on the early model B tractors and that style hub was only on the late model B tractors.
 
Most early B's had hand brakes. All three of my 1938 B's had hand brakes. I changed two of them over to foot brakes but one still has the hand brakes.

I think it's a 41 C. Short front steering arm and hand brakes. We need the serial number to confirm, but at this point all that really does is tells us what the tranny housing is.

The C I bought in 1989 was a 1942 by the serial number. It had foot brakes. The seller who had owned it for 20-30 years thought it was a 1949... Of course I don't really know its history. It could have been built of parts from multiple tractors. I remember the paint didn't all match but I guessed that was from past repaints.
