The air conditioning has not worked since I've owned it, and am considering having it repaired. What's the best compressor for this model as I'll guess the original is history? Any advice on the complete system repair to get it all working well again? Thanks!

What is the status of your current air conditioning system? If the compressor doesn't turn you will need to flush the entire system with flush solvent. Replace expansion valve or oriface, receiver dryer and pump with a rotary compressor. If compressor turns ok,you still should replace all these parts, you might get by without flushing system. I suggest replacing all hoses as well to ensure a leak free system. If you do not flush system, drain oil from old pump into a measuring cup and add that amount of new oil to new pump to keep oil in system the same. If system is flushed, add correct amount of oil the system calls for. Hook vaccum pump up for at least one half hour, but the longer the better. Charge system with recommended amount of refrigerant. Hope this helps!

I live in east Tx where its 95 plus degrees and high humidity all summer long. My 7040 still has the old big Delco compressor but when it goes bad, will replace with a Sanden compressor. Have Sandens on 2 other AC's and a Ford 8630 and have no compressor problems with them. I have more problems with the old hoses on this tractor than I do any other part of the system. I would replace the compressor, expansion valve, drier and put the correct amount of oil in the system and charge it up and look for leaks. Also add some dye to the system when you charge it and it will make it much easier to find leaks. I have much better luck finding leaks with the U/V dye than any other method I have tried. The biggest pain on any A/C system is if you do have a leak, then you ave to discharge the system to fix it. When my 7040 A/C is working right, it is right up there with the Ford as being the coldest A/C I have ever had on a tractor.

You may as well replace the hose that goes from the compressor over the top of the radiator and to the condenser. It is always the first one to fail and if it is that old, it will for sure.
