New gauge on CA, full of dirty oil

I've been working on a CA. Flushed the mud out of the engine with diesel,filled with 15w40 synthetic detergent, electronic ignition, hot plugs and 180 thermostat. I put new gauges in, none of the old were working. I took it out into some hills today. worked it hard, and the new oil gauge filled up with dirty oil.

Is this a bad gauge, issue with the tractor, or over revving going downhill with a load.

I would try another gauge, it sounds like that one failed. It is possible, but highly unlikely, the oil system went over pressure enough to blow a gauge (not knowing the pressure range of the gauge you installed). Over revving the engine would likely cause other serious mechanical problems in the engine before it would blow a gauge. It is not unusual for new oil to turn dark quickly.
 
Add grease where?

Working it hard is plowing or pulling a disc for 10 hours until you have emptied the gas tank twice. Running a tractor up and down the road is not working it. No way you did damage to the engine as long as it had oil pressure and didn't over heat. When I mow my yards with my C it takes three hours and I run the engine around 2400 RPM's. This is the seventh season on the rebuild.

Unless the block was taken to an engine shop and boiled out the inside will still gunk in the passages.

Change oil and the filter often enough and it will clear up some what in time if is important to you.
