AC WC Rear End Gear Issue

First, I am not an AC guy, have always been involved with Olivers, but I have a question;

We had an AC WC at the local show configured with a bench seat to allow the youngsters to tractor pull with the kids steering and an adult with them to operate the controls.

The tractor ran fine and during some test pulls everything worked as expected, however while being pulled backwards for the next hook something let go in the rear end, after that it would grind anytime the clutch was released in any gear we tried, including reverse. Our trials convinced us that the issue is in the rear end, any ideas what might have happened?

Is there an off chance the PTO lever got kicked a bit and is trying to engage? Does it grind if you leave it in neutral?

We tried the PTO lever (between the tranny and the rearend) it didn't seem to make any difference, but I suppose the problem could
still be there.
 
Thats not the PTO if it's in-line with the tranny. PTO is the box under the tranny. Lever should run down from the base of the steering support. What does it do with the clutch out and in neutral?

With the engine off, can you freely rotate the PTO shaft? Jack one side up and try rotating the tire. I can't see anything happening being pulled around that would cause what you have going on. I'm still suspicious of the PTO.

Sounds to me like the clutch isn't releasing properly or the clearance got too tight in the pilot bushing in the end of the crankshaft and the main shaft refuses to stop turning. Unless something drastic was done like letting up the clutch while in a forward gear when being pulled backwards there should be no reason for a breakdown in the rear end.
 
The lever between the transmition and rear end is the drive line disconnect. It disengages the power to the rearend so you could run the mechanical lift without moving the tractor. It is a sliding coupler on two splined shafts. If you can't get it to reengage you could have damaged the coupler. Take that cover with the lever off and see if that's your problem
