Allis 6060 Wiring

Here is a question for all who are good at electrical wiring of tractors. I bought a 6060 a few months ago, after having some starting issues and the batteries not charging I went on a replacement part rampage. I installed a new starter/key switch/alternator/battery's. While installing all this stuff I noticed the wiring harness was in horrible shape (splices everywhere). I cut all of the harnesses out and made up a simple harness in order to start the tractor so I can get through hay season. So now here is the problem, I've gone through three alternators, they get extremely hot after starting and then they start smoking and burn up. Any ideas what would cause this? I do not have any accessories hooked into the system, all that is contained in my harness is the (batteries/starter/alternator/key switch/ fuel shut off solenoid). Let me know what other info you might need to give me some advice. Thanks-Jason

I ordered the alternator from Yestardays tractor. Online agco parts book calls for a 72 amp alternator the one I got was 62 amp 3 wire.
It was getting really hot so I thought diode was maybe bad. Went to auto parts store and got an ac delco to try with same result but ran it to see what would happen and it started smoking. The second alternator was only a 2 wire so I made up another harness. Wiring wise I'll include my bad schematic drawing..

About the only thing that will cause an alternator to run hot is if you have either a bad battery that has a short or you have a major amp draw from something like a short. A short can cause the alternator to charge way to much which in turns causes it to run hot and burn out

Your wiring looks right.

Old is on track with his comments

Double check your wire from alternator output to start solenoid where it connects with big battery wire.

A short on the output can overload and wipe out the rectifier diodes. A broken wire from output to solenoid will allow it to try and charge back from #1 wire through switch to start solenoid. This could wipe out the diode trio.

I do try to the best of my alibies to steer people in the right direction as to there problem and maybe how to fix them with out costing them a lot of $$. lol

Thanks for all the ideas, I'm going to pull the 6060 in tonight and go through everything you guys have recommended.
