BE engine head gasket

Will the later head gasket for the 3 3/8s B engine (CE) work on the earlier 3 1/4 bore engine. Has anyone actually put one on the earlier engine? Parts manual only lists one regardless of which sleeves you have.

I have never put the 3 1/4 pistons back in to be 100% positive but it should be fine. The sleeves are all the same on the outside diameter so the firing ring would have full contact regardless of the inside diameter. I one of my large valve head rebuilds I opened the firing chamber to get the head of the valve down to the seat and the firing ring acted like an igniter. On your application I would guess in 30 years when the head was removed you would find a slight ring of carbon at the edge of the bore.

Thanks Dick, I had suspected as much. I'd never given it thought before this.

I am not sure if it is old age or just the lack of paying attention but! --------

Gee Whizz! When rereading it I was left scratching my head! :)^D

Should have been!

In one of my large valve head rebuilds I opened the firing chamber to get the head of the valve down to the seat and the exposed firing ring acted like an igniter.

I don't think it's old age, our brain's internal spell checker sees a correct word so doesn't catch it. "I" instead of "In", "You" instead of "Your" (that's the one I make constantly) etc. Both words are correct even though it reads wrong, so the brain just assumes it's all right when proofread. It seems like everyone does it.

If "someone" could figure out how to fix the edit post problem, then we could fix it ;-). When I do it, I just go "Oh well".
