D19 on the way

A friend of mine did me a favor and sold me one of his D19s after I'd been looking for one in this area for a year now. It's just very difficult to find one left in the northwest. This one is one Bob VanderPloeg restored but has since restored several high-crops and this one just couldn't fit in his warehouses. It was a shock when I got the photo because I thought I was buying a to-be-restored gas D19 and it turns out the thing is parade ready (or more to the point, ready to run my large chipper). To say the least, I'm excited about this machine, but won't get it delivered until later in the summer. Far too heavy for my trailer and truck.

I have to go up there next week and will get the details (serial numbers, options etc). Picking up a CA up there.

First tractor I've ever bought that wasn't a pile of rust. Downside is I won't get to restore this one, but I'm not complaining.

Yep, he is the type person who when you get a tractor from, you don't have to see or hear the machine, if he says it's a certain way, it is. When someone is looking for a tractor (or even a part we can't get), I always point them to Bob. He found the D10SIII Kim got and I'm restoring right now. When I was rebuilding the D14 engine, both my blocks were cracked, I could have used them, but I didn't want to because I wanted it to be perfect. A quick call to Bob and he just happened to have one sitting there. It's always that way with him.

If you can tell, I can't say enough nice about Bob and Linda. Truly great tractor people, and their collection has to be seen in person to be appreciated. A couple of years back, they hauled 90 tractors to the Lyndon show... that's a commitment.

Boy I know it. I'm pleased. Unfortunately, it will probably make my restorations look a bit shabby ;).

Agreed. That was my plan, one of each D series with the D19 at the top. Now I just have a lot of shop time to get them all in good condition, it helps that this is restored.

Trying to make me feel bad. Mine is on the swather right now for the next 30 days. Oil is leaking around hand clutch lever and left axle grease seal. Had it on the 540I baler last week for a few days. Its been on this farm for 43 years. It is a gas.

I'd trade having the history for the restored version any day. 43 years, that's great.

I'm jealous.

My D19 diesel has been a good old workhorse over the years--and looks it.

There's a charm to that too, and more importantly, utility, once something is restored, it's too easy to treat it differently and it doesn't get worked as much. Going through that with the D14 right now, seems too pretty to scratch up, and it's supposed to be a working restoration.

No, in this area, there are so many choke points because of the sound and ferries. In fact, the freeway is the only way to get there in a few places. That would be a heck of a ride though, about 50 or 60 miles. I'm imagining this will be home within about three weeks. Just in time for the D10 restoration to be complete, be interesting to see them next to one another.
