WC Warm start frustration

OK Guys - I've written to you before about our stubborn WC.
Its a 1937 with crank start only.
Starts perfectly when cold. But always has been stubborn or should I say almost IMPOSSIBLE to start when its warmed up.
I had the mag rebuilt last year and thought maybe this would help - IT Didn't !
This is super frustrating and frankly back breaking - cranking and cranking gets really old fast especially when it is hot and humid out.
Here's the facts:
Plugs are like new.
Gas was new.
Runs great when it finally starts, no smoke, no oil usage.
Tried shutting gas off last time we shut it down to see if this would help starting it - no help!
Starts wright up if we pull start it.
Timing is set TDC or a tad late so there's no danger of getting a broken wrist while cranking.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO??
Would higher octane gas help?
Would a different plug help?
I have not changed the plug wires ever, Would this help?

That is a common problem with any hand start tractor and you have to get things dialed in perfectly or they will be hard to start when warmed up. My 1935 JD-B has always been that way. My grand father ad warm start problem with it and so have I. Shoot if I wanted to start it right now it would most likely be pain in the back sides but I have not started it in 3 or 4 years now.

i also have this prob with a 1941 JD b, after warming it up just never kill it, let it slow idle during lunch ,breaks etc, not sure it's normal but learned to live with it, the ol b has , Dist instead of mag, lager slugs, larger late modle carb, so this may be part of my issue, hand start tractor probs...thanks dusty

I would try the plug wires. If they are not actual wire (like carbon centers) it usually is a problem on magneto tractors. However that is not just when hot ,but it is certainly worth a try.

My 1935 JD-B has always been hard to start after it was warmed up unless you pull started it. Let if cool for 15-30 minutes and it will start right up again. I think some it has to do with a hot intake manifold causing the gas to sort of steam of. When it was my grand fathers he had the same problem and this B has been in the family since 1940

No start hot is usually a sign of a bad coil. I really wish the rebuilder places would stick them in a 125° oven to make sure they work when hot. My WC has the same problem.

Most hand start Allis will start harder when warm. Best work around I have found is to shut the gas off and let it run til it quits, most will start much easier then.

I had the same problem with two tractors. Neither were AC. On one, the coil was weak and wouldn't supply enough "power" unless you pull started it and got the engine spinning faster than idle speed. On the other one, the impulse was bad and wouldn't hold. Just a little tug with another tractor and it fired right up.

Thanks to you all for your comments.
Sounds like this is a common problem not just with AC.
I'll try the plug wires but I will also keep my two rope available in the future.

Thanks Again

I am sure, that nobody wants to hear this, but I needs a valve grind. With every thing you have done to it, that is about all that is left. only affects it, if warm. That is valves!
