The tractor is 6 volt. The tractor ran last year but sat outside over winter. It cranks but won't turn over , I think I'm getting no spark because I am getting fuel. How much volts should I be reading from the ignition wire to the coil? I get something but its not much. Also i pulled the wire from top of distributor and cranked it and got no spark.

Dave! You asked how many volts, you should be getting at the coil wire! with a 6 volt battery, fully charged, it should be 6 volts. I am going to tell you some things, you probably, already know, because I want to help. Forget the volt meter, and use a simple test light. your circuit starts at the battery. If both your cables are making good clean contact on your battery posts, and the bolted connection on the ground cable is clean and tight, and the cable connection on the starter is clean and tight, then a test light should light up when touched to the hot side of the key switch, or ignition toggle switch( whichever your tractor uses), now if you have power to the switch, and it is passing thru the switch, then the wire going to the coil, should be hot, and light up your test light. Be sure your ignition switch is turned ON when doing this. If you have power at he coil wire, move your test light to the other post on the coil, and check for power. If no power at the out going post, then remove the distributer cap, and make sure your points have an open gap. Now you said that it was running till it sit outside, for the winter, so I am guessing that the points have a light coating of corrosion, on them, and need cleaning . I use a woman's nail sanding board between the points, and then blow the sand out when done sanding. With the points open, you should have power to only one half of the points, when using the test light. If you have good power to your points, and the points gap is properly spaced, it is time to start that bugger. I sure hope you are still awake, and this helps!

A nail sanding board will leave grit on the points that has to be cleaned with a new dollar bill. A nail or points file is better.
