Thoughts on this G

Value depends on who wants it really, a collector or someone who wants to work it in vegetable growing. Guy down the road from me has a couple in good shape that don?t have original engines and cowlings and he says in his type of growing operation, farmers don?t care about originality, just function. Many are being converted to electric so the type of gas engine doesn?t matter anyways.

For working the tractor, modern air cooled engine makes sense to me, along with a nice clean installation. Those electric conversions are more show than go.

Looks like one of those little 1 cylinder Harbor Freight engines, for all that work and engineering
I would have had a two cylinder Kohler or Honda on it. Nicely done though, I'd like a better look at the adaptation at the rear end on the tractor

I would like to go see that thing. Pull start. How does transmission work? Interesting for sure. Maybe more HP than original?

(quoted from post at 05:37:49 05/13/18) Looks good wonder what the HP is on the new motor, that was one of the big drawbacks with the G it was way underpowered.

I have used a couple as my sole cultivating tractors over the years in my produce business and have never killed the engine for lack of power. Actually of the 5 I have, a couple have the rear wheel centers welded up as they have broken or cracked over the years. They were also known to break rear axles...I would not call them underpowered....
I can cultivate on less than a gallon an hour, pretty cheap compared to what it costs to upgrade to a modern engine or electric....I will keep mine stock.

They were build on the B/C main case. An adapter housing went on in place of the B PTO unit and the Continental engine went on that. The front frame went on the front in place of the torque tube. Straight axles in place of the B offsets and a reduction gear shaft is in the adapter housing.

My Hines H-1600 is very close to being a G clone and they solved almost all the short comings of the G,the Hines has Hyrastatic drive, dual hydraulics front and rear,Cat 0 3pt front and rear, easy on and off the seat and has almost 2X the HP plus I bought it and a parts tractor for $1,000.
