I am having issues. My AC has a
woods l59 belly mower that I
had worked on. I was told to
run it for 10 mins to loosen it
up before starting to mow. 4
mins into this, my large belt
started to twist and shred!! It
is driving me nuts. Any help
would be great.

How old was the belt? I started my 8th season this year on my B225 gates belt and it rolled and started to shred enough that it jumped off. I went to Rural King and bought a 226 inch belt for 27.00 plus tax.
If your belt was new I would guess you have threading problem on the deck. Looks like the top idler is a bit high though.

Once the belt rolls it's junk and won't ever run correctly. The top pulley needs to be In the bottom of the slot. Adjust the tension with the lower pulley. Move the push brackets to a differant hole if you have to. Never loosen the belt tension. The belts should be run very tight. I've run a pix belt for 7 seasons. The gates belts last me a couple years and a way Cheeper. I had two of these for over 20 years and mow my 5 acres plus the churches 8 acres. Belt alignment is very important. If your one of those guys that thinks you can adjust the mowing height by lifting the front of the deck your going to be disappointed. I have mine set at a constant mowing height and bolted the chains so it never changes.

I have a 1940 B with a Woods belly more. I usually ignore advice I?ve been ?told?. My setup is 18 years old on the original belt. That belt needs to be real tight. I use a small hydraulic bottle jack in between the pulleys. Once that belt rolls from being lose it?s junk. I don?t use this machine full time.

Not a new belt. I just bought this tractor at an age auction and am leaning about it. I think the idler needs moved too. What is the best belt to put on it? Is there any measurements or do we just experiment? Do you tighten the belt with the deck up or down?

You can buy a woods belt that is sold to work on the B and C or you can buy a gates power belt B 225 that is cheaper than the woods L59 mower that is (226 inches long) for about 40 dollars from Amazon. I just went to Rural King on a Sunday and bought their 226 inch power belt for 27 dollars. I have been using the Rural King power belts on the Craftsman that lasts longer than other belts from Sears parts. Rurak Kings carries two priced belts sold in inches. Those belts would most likely be what your tractor/mower was adjusted for. If not the rear bottom pins or bolts can be pulled and the push arms can be adjusted to where it will work. The way I set the large idler so that belt is about level when the mower is down to keep the belt from coming off the center mower pulley at an angle that would wear the belt. As stated above the belt must be tight. Not just tight but real tight. To make the belt last the longest it needs to be checked often and tightened when needed with the bottom idler. I tighten the belt with the mower down. Then I never raise my mower deck.
