a wd, just thinking

i have a 1949 wd, wide front, which has a broken bolt hole in the front casting where the triangle plate bolts up, i can build a brace to reinforce the plate and it will hold, i can incorporate a brush guard into that so it looks like its just trying to protect the grill, but, i got to thinking, will a narrow front solve the issue? how does that install, and what changes will need to be made, i plan to use the tractor to mow, relatively flat ground, and i grew up on narrow front tractors so i know how to keep it shiny side up

You have to change the whole steering block assembly to install most NF ends.AC did make a bolt on pedestal that bolts up where the steering plate goes on the WF in both
twin wheel NF and single wheel fronts.

The fronts are easy to switch...remove 4 bolts on each side, another bolts that holds the "bearing" on the steering shaft, and knock out the pin at the u-joint. Loosen one side rail to give more room to pull the steering box out.

JMS pretty much has it. Should be easy to fix the threads in that front bolster, but you'd come out about $450 ahead if you sold and swapped your front with the narrow that most guys want to get rid of. Left side rail is the one to loosen. You have to take everything loose clear back to the axle. Couple hour job.
