Gear Oil Leak on Wd45

Hello, I seldom post but am a regular reader of posts.
I need help on my wd45. Seems to be a leak on the section of the tractor below the battery box-also where pto is mounted. I am not a mechanic, I have no mechanic skills, But the older I get, I want to get more involved in tractor and older auto repair, and possibly repair the leak my self with help if I can find someone from my local tractor friends.

My questions for now is:
Can this battery box/pto section be removed by itself, and how difficult is this? I have no leaks whatsoever any where else on the rest of the tractor. I dont want to rebuild anything, just install whatever gaskets that would seal the leak.
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it!

The way you describe the leak, you have four possibilities. #1. Loose bolts/nuts holding the PTO drop box to the torque housing. This may have caused the paper gasket to fail. #2. A leaking oil seal on the PTO shaft that comes out of the rear of the PTO drop box. #3. A leaking oil seal at the PTO shifting lever. #4. A possible crack in the side of the torque housing just above where the PTO drop box bolts on. I'd suggest using a couple of cans of brake kleen and scrub the area clean with a stiff bristle brush and see where the oil leak begins and attack the repair from there.

Thanks DrAllis for the reply, I thought at first it was the pto gasket. Oill dripping from pto, but oil seems to be near front of the section just below the battery box. I will do a cleaning on the entire area to try and spot the exact location.

There is a cover for the hand clutch directly under the battery box and there is a cork gasket there that sometimes leaks. Clean it all up good and see where the leak originates.

I removed my draw bar harness and that gave me great view and access to this gear oil leak. It is the diff/transmission seal. Also small leak at pto.
As anyone used Anaerobic Gasket Maker from Permatex?
I just found out about this stuff and was wondering if it indeed would replace a regular old fashioned gasket. Would it work on AC's?

You have a gasket problem. The gaskets are available from AGCO and are not expensive. The gasket (in both cases) has a thickness that is designed to be there for gear lash. Anerobic sealer is pretty thin stuff and not suitable for these two locations.
