Rears on Today

I don't know if you get the same feeling, but when I get the rear wheels on and pull out the jacks, it feels like a milestone. The D14, dead since I cracked the block many years ago, is just about to the point of coming back to life again. Just have to tie up some loose ends like putting the engine in and rewiring it ;). Felt good to get it on it's feet again though.

Tires are what was on it. Far side is a Goodyear. I have extra Coops that are matching, but didn't put them on. This is a working restoration, just painting because I was rewiring and rebuilding the engine. Didn't make sense not to while it was down.

Too tempting! I have a soft spot for D series. This one already has a couple of big brothers (and little brothers) waiting their turn (a 10, 12, 15D and a 17D). I will be getting a 19D or G sometime in the near future. One problem is that I'm out of storage space.

We picked these up last year, I already have started on Kim's D10 SIII, but the shop is mostly taken up by the D14 and that needs to get out before I can get to them in earnest. On the 10, I've already done new battery box, front wheels and tires, wiring, and general clean-up. These were the pictures from the day we got them plus some of the work in process. I also have a D10 Hi-crop that I may be able to get and if that ends up being beyond my checkbook, there is a D12 Hi-crop that is very rough but still restorable. There are very few around here too, D19s are also tough to find. Prices are out of line with the rest of the country.

Some people take trips tp exotic lands far away, some folks climb cliffs and such for excitement.
Me, I always get a charge out of new boots and tires.

YT I spent 22 years putting on farm rears. Nothing is as good looking as pulling out of the driveway and see
that tractor sitting on 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 new tires. Well maybe a blond but??

Just got the fronts on yesterday with new tires and rims. I had the old ones on while painting it (dish outward). They look amazing. I don't recall ever having a set of brand new fronts on my own tractor (New-to-me yes, but not totally new). Heh, I had to jack the tractor up another inch and a half after I took the old ones off to get the new ones on.

Thanks, but it's best appreciated from about 25 feet, it's definitely a working tractor restoration, my job isn't by any means show quality ;-). Just got the engine on today, so now I start sweating out whether the rebuild was successful or not. May attempt starting it tomorrow if I can remember the routing for everything. I was amazed how distant the memories are of the wiring routing up front, the governor linkage etc. I disassembled in 2009 I think.

BTW, the black fan was just for fun. I painted it like the original owners manual which was not a production D14. It was definitely a prototype but I liked the look.
