WD with stuck motor

Going to look at a Wd tomorrow that has three rear tires in very good shape and a stuck motor. It looks like it’s been kept in decent shape and they only asking $400 for it. This would be my first tractor with a stuck motor, am I asking for trouble on this project?

Pull the dipstick and look for water. If its got water in it its a goner. But.... the tires might be worth the 400 and you could part out or scrap the tractor. Personally, I'm not a salesman and I don't like dragging junk home, but seems like a guy always could use a better tire on something. gobble

Don't let posters panic you! Go to an O Rileys auto parts store, buy a can of FreeAll, remove the plugs, and squirt a bunch in each piston, and wait a couple of days. Try turning it with the crank. you may have to wait a week or two, but it should break loose. Old swears by a mix of acetone, and ATF, and has had good luck with that! , I use the FreeAll myself! With an old AC, that has sit a long time, water in the oil pan does not always come from a bad head or cracked block, on the contrary, rain water flows down the muffler to the seam where the muffler fits in the manifold, it will seep into the manifold and run into the engine thru an open valve, and leak down into cylinders, causing them to rust, and stick, and also will get into the oil pan. Just free up the pistons, change the oil,and start it up. after a while all 4 will kick in and run ok, if you are lucky.

It looks like it might just be "barn stuck" from being inside. Agree on pulling the dipstick. If it reads way high, you have a problem. The rear rims are more important to check. A running engine can be had for the $400 range, so even if this engine is junk, you can have a good running WD with $800 and a few hours labor.

Not an Allis fan, and don't need another tractor, but I would give $400 for that deal all day long.

That tractor has a lot going for it.....looks like decent fenders and nice sheet metal. I'm thinking that since the owners seem to have kept it inside, there may not be a lot of water in the engine....could be just rust from condensation.
You just can't go wrong if only for the tires!

Pull the plugs one at a time fil the cylinder with ATF put the plug back in then fill the next one till you have them all full. Always put the plugs back in to keep dirt etc. out. Next pour as much ATF down the exhaust as you can and let it sit a week or so. Then after a week or so set a 12 volt battery in pull the plugs and use short fast taps on the starter button while watching the crank pulley. If it did not have water in the cylinders good chance it will free up.

Should have said this first check the cylinder for water before putting in ATF
