Allis 6060

Just looking for opinions/information. I am thinking about adding another tractor for making hay. I use my d17's now. I've been looking at an Allis 6060 4x4. Not sure year and the owner does not know if the "Thrust Bearing" mod was ever done. It comes with a loader and the engine has a fresh rebuild. What are the pro's and con's of this tractor? Should I keep looking? Are there certain thing's I should look for when inspecting this tractor. If the thrust bearing mod was not done is there a way to check to see if there is to much wear? Give me your thoughts..

Give me your thoughts... If the tractor was in my territory AND had a loader on it (lots of clutch use) I would have installed the kit. The "kit" was only for 6080's but would fit 6060's too. The kit is easy to see. It is a 3-legged frame that goes around the crankshaft pulley. I think it would be a great replacement for a D-17. Better brakes, very easy on fuel (probably half of a D-17), much more powerful, nice flat platform that is easy to get up to, etc, etc. Only downside I can see is there are two reverse speeds, one slow and one FAST, but you'll get used to it. I've overhauled a couple of 6080's and they had 8,000 + hrs on them. The fact that this one has been OH'd makes me wonder how many hrs are actually on it ?? If the loader has been on it forever, I'd jack up each side of the front axle and inspect for king pin wear. Loaders are hard on clutches and front axles.

Good idea, I never thought about the front having wear from the loader, I will look at that. Once I can meet the folks who own it I can get more information on how the tractor was used. I also am curious why the engine needed overhauled and was the individual or shop reputable. Dr. Allis you have helped ease my apprehension, I was going to add another D17 Series iv but wanted something that can carry a 1000LB round bale out to my cows. We will see, I am looking at it this coming Thursday.

We have a 6060, it is a Fiat tractor with an Allis engine. It has a duel clutch (not 2 stage). Make sure the PTO works as it should. The tractor should always be run with the long lever on the right in the FORWARD position. Ours has the bra on the front bearing, there is a grease fitting on it and should be greased daily. Comfortable tractor and great on fuel. Be sure to get the service and operators manuals.

This is old so you probably have already made a decision. I bought a 6060 New Think it has 7000 hrs is on its 3rd tach. The dealer put the bearing on the front of the crank before itwas out of warrenty. They also put a top shaft in the trans. Mine also got a intercooler before they delivered it. Has been set on 100hp. Since new. Trans gears suck. Rev is to slow in low and to fast in high. 6070 6080 trans has a 3 speed splitter. Better.
