AC D12 steering

The steering went out on my D12. I opened the steering gearbox and found the stud that engages the worm gear is sheared off. I am considering trying to install power steering on this tractor. Is it possible to use the tractor hydraulics - the same pump that powers the 3 point hitch - for the power steering? I had problems with this tractor?s steering about 20 years ago and found out parts for the gearbox is practically nonexistent. I finally found someone to build the parts I needed last time. Don?t think I will be as lucky this time as my part is totally destroyed. Any help or suggestions on how to get the steering problem resolved will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Avery

You'll have to install Hydrastatic Steering since you no longer have a working gear box, those D12 pumps would be too small of capacity to work the power steering and the hydraulics
I would think.

Thanks for the reply. I suspected this might not work or other folks would be doing it. I should have said hydrostatic steering instead of power steering - I am not real familiar with all the terminology.
Thanks again

I have several D10 tractors for parts that have good steering boxes but don't know if they are the same as the D12 or not. What brand name is the steering box some used Gemmer and Ross
also built boxes for AC tractors I'd Imagine you should be able to find some parts.Email me if you want I may know of someone that has some New Old Stock parts too. Also what part of the
country are you located?

I asked a former AC dealer about this and he said some of the Gleaner E combines used the same steering box as the D10 & D12. There should be plenty of those in salvage.

I am located in southern Mississippi about 90 miles from the gulf coast. My D12 is a series III. The information I am getting said the gear boxes on the D12 changed at serial number 9001. But what I don?t know is - can I replace the complete gearbox with a gearbox from an earlier model D12?
Sorry I missed your reply and took so long to respond.
I will email you

Dang. I left off part of my message. My tractor has a Ross gearbox. Tractor serial number is 9157. AGCO parts says the gearbox?s changed at serial number 9001.
What part of the country are you in?
