Allis Chalmers 7060

Well folks I went and got myself a 7060. What are some of the things I should be on the lookout for? What are some of the weaknesses? Perhaps I should have asked this question before I made the deal, but well you know how that goes.

It will be used to pull my 8 cubic yard scraper and maybe show up at a few tractor pulls.

Dieseltech,
The main transmission is a five speed high and low range with a gear shift lever coming up from the floor between the clutch and brake pedals. There are two plungers on the floor to the rear of the main gear shift that give another two ranges. I haven't operated it yet but the former owner said it has 20 forward speeds and two reverse. Apparently the two ranges provided by the floor plungers can be shifted on the go, but the tractor must not be moving when the main transmission is shifted.

I suppose the floor plungers operate what International Harvester called a Torque Amplifier, and Massey Ferguson called Multi Power.

I don't have any manuals yet.

if you have the plungers on the floor, that is the power director. gives a half step range in each gear. its a good solid inexpensive workhorse. about 160 hp. something to keep in mind, the tractor has a trans brake on the clutch. if the tractor is moving, do not mash the clutch all the way down and shift. it will wear the trans brake out pronto and the trans will grind when you try and shift. depress clutch only enough do dis engage forward motion, let the tractor stop, depress clutch further to engage the trans brake and shift to desired gear. also, if you experience shifting problems, check under the cab floor for any chaffe or corn stalks. they get under there and tangle up with the shift cables. keep the shifter and cables clean and lubed.
