I was wondering where 100% of the bolts on a Allis chalmers WD painted from the factory or where some silver?
(quoted from post at 09:48:10 01/22/18) Pretty much the whole tractor was painted !! Later on with WD-45's the generator might have been black as were the headlites, but old WD's were all ORANGE including the steering wheel. You would be better served to worry about getting the CORRECT color of orange paint (Persian orange #1) and the correct color hood decals (blue up to about 1950 and black from then on). Bolt heads & nuts were painted orange when the rest of the tractor got painted.
100% in agreement with you Doc(quoted from post at 06:17:32 01/23/18) The correct paint color and the correct decals for a WD-45 !!!! It still makes me almost puke when someone spends the money for incorrect paint color and incorrect decals.
(quoted from post at 01:31:09 01/27/18) Are you saying its not correct paint and decals. If it was then most of the WD45s were painted the wrong color at the Gathering of The Orange 2015.
Not sure who you are referring to by your question. I see a couple different shades of orange in the pictures. The sun and aging makes some difference. Different brands of paint are NOT the correct color, even tho they may claim to be P.O.#1. I use PPG and feel it is about as good as it gets for correctness. I can't tell the decal colors, but the big A and S are to be blue. The small A and S are always black. The year of change from blue to black was sometime in 1950 or 51 I think. A "WD" never had a WD decal if decals were blue. That's how it was when they were built. It's a free country (yet) and anyone can paint and decal their tractor however they want. I just figure spend the same $$$$$ and get the correct paint/decals. Resale value down the road just might be better.
I grew up with these tractors and remember when the D-series came out and seeing the new tractors at the dealership being the new Redish Orange. We realized what #1 Persian was even on faded tractors.(quoted from post at 14:27:02 01/27/18) the PPG 60080 is #1 Persian Orange
