replace camshaft WD

I may need to replace the camshaft in a WD, would like to do this in frame if possible. Any thoughts on how to hold the lifters up. Thanks.

Don't forget the cam and it's bearings are critical for oil pressure. I'd make sure the new cam is within spec with the old bearings. I've heard of using cloths pins to hold the lifters up. Maybe some cheap spring clamps or heavy rubber bands would work too. Do you have clearance to swing the front cover out of the way?

I have changed out one camshaft on a WD/WD45. It was a pulling tractor. If you have the 3 bolt-on cam gear, remove the gear and it will slide out over the steering gear housing.. If it is the newer pressed-on gear, you'll have to remove the steering gear housing. I used the push rods to hold up the lifters by pinching 2 of them together with a stiff rubber band AFTER pushing the lifters clear up from underneath with the oil pan removed. Why are you thinking you need to change the camshaft ??

I think my grandson may have discussed this with you on another forum, We have the camshaft that Berry's reground and may have messed up. It
has the pressed on gear, do you think I could pull the gear off with a puller?

Getting the gear pulled off while in chassis is one thing. Getting the gear back on in chassis is more difficult. Just pull the engine and lay it on it's left side. That way the lifters will stay up out of the way.

Will most likely put the stock WD cam back in, so it has the bolt on gear so that sounds like it will work. Thanks.
