WD Head vs WD-45 Head

OK here's my situation, I'm rebuilding the engine in my dad's WD, I did some research and talked to some people and decided to put a 45 rebuild kit in it.Everyone I talked to said all I would need to do is get a 45 crankshaft, the heads are the same. So I ended up with a 45 parts tractor the other day and looking it over I noticed the head is quite a bit different.(size wise) So what is the difference? Is it just the the water jackets are bigger?

The 45 head is taller. That centers the plug a bit better in the hole. It probably flows coolant better as well. From what I understand from the pulling folks, they do not flow air/exhaust any better. If you use the 45 head, you do not need to change the push rods but you DO need the rocker stands from the 45 head and obviously the head studs.

OK so if I use my WD head I won?t have any
problems? That would be ideal for me since I just
got it back from the machine shop and it?s ready to
be put on

I have a WD head o. A d17 block in a WD. No problems. Used it for mowing and tillage.
