Hello I'm new to the forum and just purchased my first allis chalmers it's a model d grader serial #D-3842 need help with information on the year the engine is a four cylinder gas will need carb rebuild and fuel tank cleaning

If I remember right that is a WD45 tractor engine so many parts are the same as the WD45 tractor

Thank you that makes parts a lot easier to find does anyone know the year I'm thinking it's a mid 1950s I'll try to upload some pics today

The Model D was built from 1949-1965, and used the 226 cu in engine- same as the WD45, or 226 power unit. 58 brake hp. D-3842 is a 1954 model. There was also a "gasoline special", which had larger tires as well as a hyd operated blade circle.

Great info thank you it is a manual rotate with 8.25 x 20 tires that will need replacing soon dry rotted pulled carb and cleaned and rebuilt it today checked points and plugs they look very good so hopefully have it ready to run soon

Just a tip. If you find you need to replace the plugs use NGK3112s they seem to work better with this alcohol gas we now have

I no longer have my D grader or any of the related data or I could tell you exactly the year from the serial number. I guess the mid 50's but I am certain that someone that has the serial number listing will come up with an exact year.
