I have a belt pulley for my D14 that I picked up on Ebay. It came with the shim pack and they appear to pulled it back sufficiently. I'm getting ready to install it now.
The shims and pulley casing show no signs of any sealer being used. The I&T doesn't mention sealing in installation either. The machined surfaces are excellent, but the condition of the shims suggests to me that it might weep oil. I was going to use teflon thread sealer since the bolts have wet ends in the torque tube, but I'm wondering if I should use a very light sealer between and on the outer surfaces of the shims to seal that case up? Using a sealer would make reshimming later very difficult, but I don't want it to leak.
Anyone know how it was done originally on the D14, 15 and 17? I have noted that AC used shellac on the shim pack for the steering gear. It was present between each shim.
