Agco Allis 6680

Hello,

I am looking at buying a used 6680 in my area (3000 hrs, loader). I was wondering if anyone out there had experience with these ie. buy it now, stay the hell away, known issues.

Also, what is the parts market like for these? Manufacturer only or is there a strong aftermarket supply?

Thanks for your time!

That is a SAME tractor from Italy. Boy, I would sure check on parts availability. Here is the tractor data link.

http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/002/2/1/2210-agco-allis-6680.html

Also, is the transmission setup for a loader, e.g. power or mechanical reverser?

I know nothing about them other than the tractordata information. I would sure be concerned about parts.

Just my thoughts.

Well they sell CHEAP!!! I had several fellows try and trade theirs' to me for a JD tractor. Both of them Hated theirs after they had them for a while. The 2wd ones did not turn very sharp. The one fellow said his would not turn quick enough to use a 4 row wide cultivator on.

As for parts your stuck with AGCO for the most part. There where not enough of them sold for there to be many aftermarket parts.

So if it where me I would keep looking. There are other models/brands that would be better in my opinion.

After more research I found out, much like 2510Paul said, it is the same thing as an SAME Explorer tractor. Not being able to find any parts on the major parts websites, I decided to contact an AGCO dealer and ask. Just about everything I asked about had been discontinued...

This explains why a 90hp cab tractor, with loader, is selling for so cheap.

So rather than learn Italian and try to locate a dealer in Italy, I think I shall continue my search and try to find a good domestic machine with a strong parts, and knowledge, base. Unless I can talk him down super cheap, run it till it dies, and then sell the loader (TAS ML500) off of it.

Thanks for the info guys!

Good for you. I like the way you investigated the parts availability.

If you do a lot of loader work, I suggest a transmission/clutch that works well with a loader.

Good Luck.

My late father purchased a 6690 new at the local dealer back in 1996 if my memory is correct. We favored
orange tractors and equipment so it seemed logical. My dad really thought the air cooled motor was a
great idea.We take excellent care of our equipment and this tractor is always shedded. After 20 years of
owning it has a little over 900 hours on it and the hardest chore it does is mow the pasture. The air
cooled motor is nice but it has broken the blower/fan belts twice already. The motor also is easy on
fuel.At two different times the chincy transmission linkage parts totally broke. It scares me to think
parts are getting very hard to find from Agco and if I would try to trade it in I would not get a dime
for it.We are pretty much stuck with this tractor and I only wish we would have studied up on it before
we purchased it because it sure aint the orange tractors we were used to. Run away fast. Ryan

Used to work at a place that had one of these air cooled beasts as a rented tractor. I remember thinking the cab interior reminded me of a similar era Geo Prism. Drove it on the road once. Kind of loud. Had a bracket for a loader on it, but no loader, and a slightly bent front rim. Agco dealer had it as a rent out tractor, probably because it wasn't "selling"? And this was 10 years ago.
