hydrualic oil in transmittion

Jim. I know nothing about the 185, but out D17 did the same thing 20 years ago. The 3 point lift cylinder is INSIDE the rear cover on the transmission. The flex hose had blown and was leaking hyd fluid into the trans.

Input shaft seal to the front of the transmission is leaking. Requires splitting the tractor at the platform area. New rubber lip seal, three new sealing rings and possibly the seal retainer if it has grooves worn inside of it. DO NOT press the new seal all the way into the retainer or it blocks off the oil drain hole. Only press in flush. Nothing like an older D-17.

I recently purchased a 180 and discovered that I have the same problem. Any additional info that you can provide that will help me make this repair is greatly appreciated as I have no experience working on this type of machinery.

there s a hole in the seal retainer that dump the oil that pass by the sealing rings i always drill it out a size or to bigger so as the sealing rings wear it can dump more oil back into rear housing

Thanks for the information. I'll be into that right after Christmas. One other thing, where can I find a 16x 28 spin out rim? They're apparently scarce as hens teeth!

I have a set of 18.4 28 off of either a 175 or 185 on spin out wheels loaded with fluid. Good wheels slight rust around valve stem hole. 75% tread. Email me if you're interested. I believe they are 16 x 28 wheels but I won't seperate wheels and tires.

Thank you for your reply. I am interested. What is the price and where are you located?
