Allis B Amperes Guage

Just a put a new Amperes gauge on my 1951 Allis B. Just wondering what it should be reading when the tractor is at idle. Still a 6 volt system - positive ground.

Thanks!

tidle speed, the cut out relay will not have closed yet so there will be no output. It will read about 0, if you have a distributor rather than a mag, it may show a very very slight, or unreadable -, if you turn on lights it will show considerable -, maybe -10 or so.

Uh oh...I may have it backwards then. It's reading almost full "discharge." Reading about 15-16 discharge.I would think it would read charging while running?

at IDLE it should read slightly positive, maybe 1-2 amps.. If you turn on the light switch, it should jump, then go back to a couple amps.. If the battery is low, you may charge at 8-9 amps for 30 minutes, then drop back down to 1-2 amps... At idle, you may actually go slightly negative.

If the battery is partially charged, it will put out 14 or so amps, at part throttle, not idle. Most generators will not put out
much at idle. Make sure the battery is being charged by measuring the voltage across the battery it should be about 6.3 when
turned off. It should measure 6.8 to 7.2 when running a 1/2 throttle or more. Jim
