Belt pulley rod diameter

For those of you who have the D14, D15, or D17 belt pulley actuating rod, could you measure the diameter stock AC used. I have to fabricate one because I have the pulley, but I don't have the rod. It appears to be 3/8s stock since there is little space left in the 7/16s dash slot for it, but I'd like to confirm before starting on it. I would also like to know about how much of the bare rod shows through the dash when it's disengaged. I'm guessing about a 1/2 inch from ones I've seen.

Thanks in advance.

Could you maybe us a set of calipers to measure how big the diameter of the hole is in the lever?? That should get you the rod size. I know that is how I would do it on this D-17 I have if I get a belt pulley set up for it

Yes, that's where I came up with 3/8s partially. I just wanted a firm measurement from someone else with the real AC part. Your D17 should be the same as what mine should be.

My D-17 only has the lever in the torque tube so it has no rod going to the dahs. Shoot I have never see a D-17 with a belt pulley on it let alone the rod it self

I see, I thought you had the dash rod, but you have the case lever itself. I think all of them had that, even on the Series IV.

I'm guessing you're about right on the 1/2 inch. It wasn't much. As I recall, there was a knob, maybe 1.5" in diameter, which was fairly flat, you could just get your fingers around?

Thanks to both of you. 3/8s it is. It's a press fit through the lever (which I will take it down just slightly) and a perfect fit through the dash hole, slides easily.

I'll use a WD45 PTO knob for now since it's a 3/8s fine thread. Should be able to find the flat style through antique auto suppliers when I have time to research.

If you go back to my post the other day asking about the Belt pulley lever one of the guys there said something about the series 4 D-17 not having the place for the belt pulley so if he is correct the series 3 was the last one to have that option

Yes, as far as the parts manual goes, the Series IV belt pulley controls were gone, but the torque-tube opening was still there and in use if you look at images of the right side of the Series IV. I was guessing a gear similar to the belt pulley drive gear would still be present to drive the right side-mount hydraulic pump. Otherwise I couldn't see how it could be driven.
