AC Electrical Equipment

Not long ago, I was turning around on a side street here in town and used the driveway into the substation. I pulled in and saw a familiar logo, so I snapped a photo with my phone.

It would appear to me that this must have been mid-60s or older based on the style of logo. I thought it amazing that they made equipment then which is still viable today.

In northern Mn. the Tower Sudan underground iron mine used a big electric motor and winch system to bring up the ore. It was built by AC. Mine is closed & it is a state park now with underground tours going down 1/2 mile.

Hoover Dam generators and turbines, all AC. Grand Coulee same thing.

Curious that it has the new logo shown on the building in the photo, but the article is about a 3rd generator for operation in 1961. It suggests they had already switched over for the heavy industries. My 61 D12 has the older logo, Kim's 67 D10 also has the older logo on front, but the new one on seat and steering wheel and it is highly original. I presumed they'd changed logos around the time the tractors did. This could suggest the heavy industries were already using it in 60 or even late 50s.

I noted on Ebay today, after the post above discussing Siemens, that there is a lot of Siemens-Allis branded old electrical components for sale. I saw on Siemens historical site for Siemens USA, that the joint venture of Siemens-Allis actually started back in 1968. It appears they were connected to Siemens long before the buyout.
