New owner 1948 WD & a few questions

Picked up this little jewel locally the other day.
Most of the stuff in my collection is Oliver and Moline, so this is my first AC tractor.
Previous owner took good care of it and was an excellent mechanic. You can tell due to attention to detail.
Tractor (sn 7358) runs very well with good oil pressure and no smoke. Only complaint I have is that the differential whines enough to remove the fillings in your teeth. All fluids, including final drive, changed. Oddly enough, 4th gear is pretty quiet.
A few questions for your AC experts out there-
1. Is the hole in the distributor drive housing supposed to be plugged or left open?
2. the brake housings were full of mice nests and the bottom plugs are missing. Where does one find these?
3. 3rd gear is hard to engage. The straight shift lever just doesn't seem to locate 3rd gear very well. Perhaps the shift rails need some lube.
4. Grease zerks in the front are worn out and appear to be pressed in. How does one remove/replace them?
Here's a few pictures. Thanks for the help.

Hole on distributor drive should be open or if not all the ones I have ever had where wrong.
3rd being hard to find is also pretty common

Third gear on a WD is different than the others. When shifting into most gears you move the shifter till you find an
indentation. Not so with third gear , you move the gear shifter until you find a high spot , a bump, then you push the
shifter forward. BTDT

There are no plugs for the bottom hole under the break. The hole is a drain hole incase the tranny seal leaks, also you can
oil the brake band pivot points through this hole.

You can blow out the mouse nest bu alternately blowing from the top (remove cover) and from the bottom.

The hole in the side of the distributor shaft is for periodic lubrication (oil) and usually has a screw plug in it.
The grease zerka are a press fit , a pair of vice grips may get them out.

Yes, the rear end in a WD can really moan.

Your tractor would have originally had a magneto. You have the Delco/aftermarket distributor and drive adaptor.

All the holes you mention are open.

Thanks for replies.
Intake/exhaust manifold leaks, so need to replace gaskets. Have them on order.
Got a factory owner's book. Valve lash (hot) stated is 0.012", however the picture in the manual shows a 0.010" feeler gauge.
Any thoughts on cold settings?
Did an oil change and learned that the oil filter post cannot be shoved all the way down or the oil pressure gauge doesn't work. Bought an Oliver a few years back that had the post missing, so learned that lesson. I don't recall, however, that the post was not seated in the filter base. Is there a trick to pushing the post down into the base without bottoming out? The tapered end with the horizontal hole is at the top.

On the A/C tractors having the correct oil filter is needed or you do not have oil pressure. If I remember right I use the Wix 57101 filter on my A/C stuff

The tractor needs to be at a dead stop to change gears in a WD,like a lot of old tractors you just need to use it a while to get used to things about it.2nd gear also 'growls' in most every WD I've ever driven too.
