Allis B governor

I am trying to get the governor and linkage back to normal on my Allis B governor(with a Mag) as all the linkage had been removed and the only speed control is directly on the carb. I purchased a used governor and linkage but when I removed the housing, the shaft with the weights and gear will not come out. On the drawing I can't see what would be holding it. Do I need to do more disassembly?

1. You may need to remove the magneto to help get it out.
2. The gear teeth, are slanted so you need to twist the assembly to slide it out of the teeth.
3. When you do change the governor you need to reuse your old gear. The governor gear is driven off the cam gear (which in turn is driven by the crank gear) so you want to keep the same wear patterns on the gears. A different gear could ruin the cam and crank gear.
4. Make sure you notice the timing marks when you reinstall the governor so the mag can be timed properly.

You have to remove the magneto and at the outside edge of the coupling that drives the impulse coupling you wee see a pan head screw that goes in at an angle. Remove the screw and the governor will then come out the front.

A picture from the parts book, the screw is between item 1 and 2
