Allis B Governor

Hello All,

I've got a 51 Allis B. Runs great. But idles high and I don't have any control over the throttle really. Governor spring is good, tried adjusting at the carburetor, and tried adjusting the throttle lever too. Nothing seems to work. Is it possible that my weights might be stuck?

Not sure where to go next or what to dig into next. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

To idle fast it has to have the throttle plate open farther than is necessary. To slow the idle fuel will need to be restricted more. That is controlled with the stop screw on the throttle lever on the back side. The stop screw and the idle needle will both need adjusted a little each until the slow idle is smooth.

The governor itself is most likely fine. The governor cross over arm could be out of adjustment or the throttle plate was installed backwards. You can take hold of the throttle linkage in front of the carburetor and feel if the linkage is pushing toward the gas tank. If it is pushing back and wants to make the engine run faster the throttle plate is opening when it should be closing. If it is closing then the above instructions for adjusting idle will work.

When idle is correct you will need to push the throttle lever at the steering wheel to the most forward position. On the carburetor side disconnect the linkage at the cross over arm at the front. With the straight linkage pushed back it should just lack only a slight amount of entering the hole in the cross over arm. That arm will need to be bent to make any adjustments.
