D17 series 4 3pt not working properly

I have recently inherited a d17 series
4, and went to put a 3pt blade on it
to fix the driveway, and it couldn't
retract the 3pt cylinders unless there
is some weight on it. Any ideas on
what this may be, or is it normal?
This is the first allis that I've
owned, so i have no clue about the
traction booster or if the position
control is in the wrong spot. They are
both sitting on the 7 mark.

It's normal for the lift to require some weight to get it to go down.

Both levers fully forward is just as it says, maximum depth. Position control should give you whatever depth you want for grading, cultivating, etc. Traction booster regulates depth also, but works on feedback from the torsion bar, so is used for plowing.

Both levers count on all the linkage below, as well the dedicated spool valve, being free. Without use the linkage AND the spool valve can stick.

Ok, thanks. I was afraid something was broken on the tractor and that parts wouldn't be cheap.
