It seems I heard once that the wheels on an unstyled WC were to be orange if they were steel wheels and black if the tractor was on rubber tires. Just wondering if this is correct or if I dreamt it somewhere. Thanks!

hat is correct.

That gets complicated. Steel wheels
where orange that's for sure. Now on
rubber I have allot of original sales
literature that shows the most of them
black. Even some early styled
tractor's with pressed steel rims in
black and white photos are black. My
37 WC is repainted with black wheels.
When we dismounted the old rear
wheels. One rim was orange and had
been orange for a long time. The other
side was all black. Some guys say only
orange others say black. It depends
what you like. Myself I like them
painted black

I am no expert on this... I saw a restored 35? WC at a show with black painted wheels (rubber tires) once and was surprised.

For a data point, this photo was taken about 1941-2. Little girl setting on the 1936 WC fender was born in '38. I would expect the tractor was factory paint at that time. I recall my dad (on the right in the picture) talking about the original tires having round plug shaped treads and you can see that here. Grandpa bought this tractor when about a yr old used and traded in his fordson.

The rear rim does not look like it was painted black as the shade seems to match the fender.

I belive that all rubber rims were orange and steel i was to you
could get it in orange or black but idk for sure

My Grand Father and my Dad bought a new WC in '36 and one in '38, both on rubber tires. The F&H wheels on the '36 were a glossy black as were the wheel weights. The '38 had the pressed steel and were orange, front had a different hub and wheel painted orange. Had several neighbors with WCs and all of them on rubber through '37 had black wheels. Just my .02 cents worth.
