Started locked up - B?

Trying to get the B started today and the starter kinda cut out with a bang. Now it does nothing at all. I tried to pull the starter out but it will not budge - even whacking it with a mallet and trying to wedge it out with a small pry bar. I just put it back in a few days ago. Tried rocking it in 3rd gear and no go. No idea what to do now - any suggestions from you guys who know more about this than me? Maybe try to turn it with a big pipe wrench? Kinda stumped right now.

Big bang not good maybe have broken off the nose cone area and that can then cause other major problems. If you have the bolt out that holds it in can you turn it any at all?? Also you might try turning the engine it self backwards which could move things so you can then pull it out. Learned years ago putting one in gear then trying to make something turn does not work well. Now if you can get a wrench on the crank shaft pulley bolt that works if you have a long cheater bar
 
Did the starter turn in the hole? You might want to try to turn the engine backwards a little. You might have to split the tractor to get it loose.
 
NO, almost certain the starter did not turn in the hole. I was really snugged up. I will try to figure out how to turn the engine backwards. Is there a port somewhere I can get to the flywheel? Cam I use the crank and turn it backwards that way?

On the crank where the hand start handle goes in should also be a nut sort of thing you can get a wrench on to turn it back wards unless of course it is locked up and then the nut part may try to spin out. The crank shaft pulley is held on by bolt which has the hand crank part made in it so that is where you can turn it back wards at
 
Not really. To get a good bite you would need to remove the radiator and put a chain wrench on the crankshaft pulley unless you have a 48" pipe wrench. Might be just as easy to split the tractor if you have the tools to do it. You might have to split it anyway.
 
Not much of a nut to get hold of.

Been a long time since I have looked at the B or C crank shaft pulley area but either way a pipe wrench could be used or a chain wrench around the pulley could be used
 
You can also put the PTO in gear and use a pipe wrench on the PTO and maybe a cheater bar to turn the engine backwards
 
Discovered I had been backing out the lock nut, not the bolt that actually holds the starter in. Once I got the right bolt out, the starter slid out and then back in, and it turns fine now. Duh! Thanks for the help. On to the next project, gasket for the oil filter and then the brakes need attention. At least I got it to start and run - turned out the sediment bowl had crud in it.
