I am rebuilding a 1950 Allis C. I have completed everything in front of the drive shaft and all of those parts are working well. Yesterday I took it out for a ride and discovered that the left final drive wasn't OK. The bull gear was eating away at the inside of the pan housing. I took the housing off. The bull gear was loose and could move on the shaft almost an inch. The shaft is splined and so the gear would turn when driven by the axel shaft. I am guessing that sometime in the history of this tractor some one took it apart and then put it back together and left out a lot of the parts. In the Dealer Parts Catalog, pages 104 & 105, it shows that there are 10 separate items that go on this shaft which would, among other things, keep the bull gear in place. My question is where is the best place to get these parts? I can't find them all in any of the parts catalogs that I have, ie., Steiner, All States, and DJS. I might have go to salvage yards or buy my own parts tractor? Does anyone have any advice or idea for me of the best way to deal with this?
